Gadsden, Ala. — Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State Community College, will announce a major renovation of Wallace Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. The announcement will take place at 3 p.m. April 29 in the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center. Wallace Hall consists of the Fine Arts Center and an academic wing, which was constructed in 1967. Gadsden, Ala. — The Alabama Power Co. granted $50,000 to Gadsden State Community College to construct a new walking and running trail along the perimeter of the Wallace Drive Campus that borders the Coosa River. Known as the Coosa River Trail at Gadsden State, the multi-purpose venue will be open to College employees and students as well as members of the community for walking, running and enjoying nature. Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Financial Aid Department is offering proactive measures for the 2024-25 academic year to support students amidst the FAFSA Simplification Act. The act will expand the Federal Pell Grant to more students and will link eligibility to family size and the federal poverty level. Gadsden State Cherokee holds food drive Centre, Ala. — Gadsden State Cherokee is hosting a food drive for the Cherokee County Children’s Advocacy Center, a child-focused facility designed to be a comfortable and safe place for children who have been victimized through abuse or neglect. Individually packaged snacks and drinks as well as $5 fast food cards will be accepted. The public can drop off donations to the academic building through April 30. Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s head softball coach is busy recruiting members to his burgeoning program. So far, there are 21 signed players with an additional 10 players making verbal commitments. “We have a great group of ladies coming to Gadsden State to play softball,” said Coach Ryan Clark. “I am very proud that they will represent our first team after not fielding a team for seven years.” The softball program came to a halt in 2016.
